Welcome to the Catalogue of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) Historical Archives and Dunn Perinatal Library

RCPCH Historical Archives

In 1928, six paediatricians attended the first meeting of the British Paediatric Association "to advance, for the benefit of the public, education in child health and paediatrics...". The BPA's first Annual Scientific Meeting in Windemere soon followed. Over the years, the BPA grew to be an organisation that actively sought for improvements in child health. For decades the Association discussed how to form a college and on 23 June 1996 we were granted Royal College status.

Our archive holds a rich collection of over 5,000 records, charting not only the history of the College, but also the wider history of children's medicine, child health and social policy, and medical education. Collections include:

  • Annual General Meetings, Committees and RCPCH Council
  • Awards, Lectureships and Fellowships
  • Activities relating to the education and training of paediatricians
  • Historical College publications: reports, policy statements, research and clinical audits
  • Legal and constitutional records
  • Biographical information about paediatricians
  • Documentation on specific child health cases

Through this catalogue you can search the collections we hold, then contact us to view available material. If you would like any help searching the catalogue, please contact us or see guidance on our website here.

Please note: This catalogue describes historical and contemporary records held in RCPCH's archives. As products of their time periods, some records use language which is inappropriate and offensive. We preserve these records for research and acknowledge that they do not all represent RCPCH's commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
